Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University baseball team (12-16, 4-12 NACC) lost both games to St. Norbert College (14-12, 11-5 NACC) in a NACC doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Regents had plenty of chances between both games but fell apart in the late innings of each, falling in back-to-back games. The pitching duo of Jared Herzog and Christian Dahlstrom in the opener managed to record a combined zero earned runs and 13 strikeouts to give the Regents a chance in game one.

Recap Recap
Game 1
  • The first game of the night turned into a pitching duel between St. Norbert's Trevor Reinhardt and Rockford's Jared Herzog. Neither team was able to get any offense going until the second inning. St. Norbert managed to get two runners in scoring position on a balk, but Herzog was able to strike out the next batter to get out of the jam.
  • The Regents came up and Neil Freeman got the inning started with a double. After Freeman advanced to third on a wild pitch, Jonathan Leon smacked a double down the left field line that scored the opening run of the game, making the score 1-0.
  • RU held the lead for the next 4 innings before St. Norbert finally managed to respond. A series of errors by the Rockford defense brought two runners all the way around to score and take the lead on a pair of unearned runs, leading the game 2-1.
  • Rockford was looking for an opportunity to tie the game, and the Regents loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning. St. Norbert got a ground ball and were able to turn a double play to get the second and third outs to get out of the inning still in the lead.
  • RU came up to bat with one final opportunity to tie the game. With two runners on base, The Green Knights intentionally walked Aaron Monti to load the bases. Gio Lucchetto came up next and drew a walk to bring home the tying run with the bases still loaded with only one out. A strike out and ground out for the next two batters ruined the golden opportunity to win the game, forcing extra innings.
  • The top of the tenth inning was all St. Norbert. The Green Knights managed to score four unearned runs to take a 6-2 lead. The errors cost the Regents, and they were unable to comeback in the bottom of the tenth, losing the opener by a final score of 6-2.
Game 2
  • St. Norbert started off in front with a pair of singles that scored one run in the first inning to make the score 1-0.
  • The Green Knights and Regents each played through quiet innings up until SNC scored on a sacrifice fly to left field to make it 2-0.
  • Rockford was held scoreless until the sixth inning, when Jake Bilotta tripled, and was brought home by Joseph Stagowski, who doubled down the line. The Regents failed to score the tying run but pulled within one point at 2-1.
  • St. Norbert responded with a series of singles and a sacrifice fly that earned them three runs to expand the lead to 5-1.
  • A double and a single in the eighth inning by the Green Knights continued to pour on runs with two more off a double and single to extend their run and put the score at 7-1.
  • Rockford needed to respond in the bottom of the inning and Matthew O'Shaughnessy managed to score the Regent's second run thanks to a sacrifice fly from Joseph Stagowski to make the score 7-2. Rockford loaded the bases and Aaron Monti knocked a single that scored two additional runs for Rockford to pull within 7-4.
  • RU failed to score the rest of the game and St. Norbert completed the sweep by a final score of 8-4.
