The Rockford University athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of
Sam Korn as its next head softball coach. Korn joins the Regents after multiple coaching stops across the country and becomes the eighth head coach in the history of the program.
"We are thrilled to have Sam join our department," Associate Director of Athletics
Jessica Stanek stated. "She brings knowledge and experience from her previous roles and understands the competitiveness of the NACC as a former student-athlete. The softball team is in a good position, and I look forward to watching Sam put her imprint on the program."
"I am so excited and honored to be the next head softball coach at Rockford University," Coach Korn remarked. "I would like to thank
Jason Mulligan, Jess Stanek and the entire search committee for entrusting me with the opportunity of leading the softball program. I am very grateful to be able to continue my coaching career in the NACC, where I spent my entire playing career."
Just prior to coming to Rockford, Korn was the head defensive coach and assistant offensive coach at Bridgewater College. Korn was involved in all facets of the program, including conducting all defensive practices, working with the catchers and assisting with the pitchers. She coached six all-conference performers, two all-region players and helped the team win its first game in the ODAC Tournament since the 2013 season. Away from the diamond, Korn also served as the recruiting and admissions coordinator and an assistant strength and conditioning coach. Â
Korn's other collegiate coaching experience came at the University of Pikeville. There she assisted with all aspects of the program, including strength and conditioning, catchers, outfielders, hitting instruction and leading practices. She was also responsible for managing the team's social media accounts, monitoring academic progress and conducting camps.
Before entering the coaching ranks, Korn was a three-sport athlete at Alverno College. She was a four-year player for the Inferno softball program and started 122 games during her career. Korn was also heavily involved throughout campus during her time at Alverno. She was a member of the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) all four years and served as SAAC President for three years.
"Being at RU already feels like home, and I cannot wait for the upcoming year, as we have such a great group of young women," Korn said. "The program has been moving in a positive direction, and I am excited to keep that momentum going. I look forward to having everyone back on campus so we can get to work. Go Regents!
