ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team (1-5) finally got a chance to break in the new court floor, but unfortunately fell to Eureka College (3-2) by a score of three sets to one. After a battle in the first set going to the Red Devils, Eureka won the second set as well. This prompted a Rockford response down by two sets, in which the Regents dominated the opening of set three and held on to make it 2-1. Eureka then finished the job in the fourth set, winning 25-15 in the set and 3-1 total.
Melody Moreno led the attack for Rockford, she finished the day with 15 kills and an assist.
- The first set was a back-and-forth battle between the sides, trading leads consistently. It was the Regents ahead 23-22 going into the final points of the set, but Eureka grabbed the final 3 points to take the first set 25-23.
- Rockford once again held on with Eureka to start set two, the score at 9-8 Rockford.
- The Regents then fell apart after that, giving up 17 of the last 24 points, unable to make much of the momentum back, dropping the second set 25-16.
- RU kicked off the third set on fire, running up the score to 18-7, the team's biggest lead of the set. The Regents hit 4 service aces in this time, two for Brynn Atwell, and one for Alex Burton and Amelia Rodriquez.
- Eureka started creeping back in at 23-19, but Rockford secured the final two points on kills by Melody Moreno and Nicole Eggers to win the set 25-19.
- The fourth and final set was looking up for RU as they held a 10-7 lead in the initial stages.
- The Red Devils started putting on pressure at that point and managed to take the lead back 17-15. Eureka then finished off the match by winning the final 8 points in a row to take the fourth set and the victory 25-15.
- Melody Moreno finished with a team high 15 kills, 6 digs, and an assist.
- Nicole Eggers had 3 blocks and 7 kills on the night.
- Brynn Atwell finished with a team high 32 digs and 5 service aces for the Regents.
- Alex Burton recorded 10 kills and 3 service aces with 9 digs.
