MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team earned an impressive 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon at Alverno College. Rockford won each of the three sets in a different fashion. The Regents coasted to a relatively easy 25-19 win in the first set. Rockford then came from behind to take the second set 26-24 and closed the third set on a 6-2 run to win the match 3-0. Rockford has now beaten the Inferno four straight times and Saturday's 3-0 win was the first straight set win over Alverno since 2014.
- Rockford jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead thanks in part to a pair of kills by Tamsy Leverton.
- With the set now tied at 13-13, the Regents scored the next 6 points to take the largest lead in the set for either team. Amelia Rodriguez led the RU attack with a trio of kills over that span.
- Alverno was able to get back to within two, but Rockford closed the set on a 6-2 run and took the opening set 25-19.
- The second set got off to the opposite start as the first, with Alverno taking an early 11-7 advantage.
- With the Inferno still leading 16-12, the Regents ran off the next five points to take their first lead in the set since 5-4.
- The set continued to go back and forth with the Inferno holding a late 23-21 lead.
- Rockford proceeded to score the next three points to retake the lead at 24-23, but Alverno promptly tied the set at 24-24.
- Fortunately, Alexis Brashaw and Grace Vyborny strung together back-to-back kills to help the Regents take the second set 26-24.
- The third set was extremely tight early on, with neither team leading by more than 2 points.
- The Regents would then use a 6-0 run to turn the set in their favor and nab a 16-10 lead.
- Alverno was able to slowly chip away at the deficit and eventually tied the set at 19-19.
- The two school continued to go back and forth, as Rockford clung to a late 22-21 advantage.
- The Regents then ended things with a 3-0 run to win the third set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
- Alexis Brashaw finished with 7 kills on just 13 attack attempts for a .462 hitting percentage.
- Brynn Atwell tallied a match-high 21 digs.
- Leila Cooks added 17 assists, 8 digs and 3 kills.
- Grace Vyborny had 5 kills on 9 attempts for a staggering .556 hitting percentage. She also added 3 digs and 3 blocks.
