LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University softball team battled against the nationally-ranked Concordia Wisconsin Falcons and came up short in both contests. The Falcons controlled the first game, winning after seven innings 10-2. It took until the fourth inning of game two to get the first runs, and Rockford looked good heading into the sixth inning. CUW scored three runs in the sixth and managed to keep the Regents down until the final out, securing the sweep 6-4.
CUW 10 Rockford 2
- CUW started game one with seven unanswered runs in the first four innings of the game to go ahead 7-0
- The Regents broke the shutout in the fifth inning. Bella Lima tripled to open the inning and Lima was able to score on an error in the next at-bat to make it 7-1
- The Falcons added three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh, making it a 10-1 ballgame.
- Rockford needed an answer in its last at-bats of the game. A single by Michaela Froehlich turned into a double that scored the pinch runner Olivia Lysaght to make the score 10-2.
- The Regents ran out of time shortly after and conceded to the Falcons, losing game one 10-2.
CUW 6 Rockford 4
- Pitching dominated the start of game two. Rylee Klema for Rockford didn't allow a hit in the first three innings of action.
- The Falcons eventually broke the no-hitter in the fourth, while also adding a run to make the score 1-0.
- Rockford got its offense going in the fourth as well. With two outs, Kariana Williams tripled and was brought in by Lauren Zielinski's double to tie the game. Makayla Howard came up and added another double to score the go-ahead run.
- The Falcons responded with two runs of their own in the fifth, taking the lead 3-2.
- Candace Kipp and Emily Down got into scoring position in the bottom of the inning, and with two outs, Kariana Williams drove both runners in to take the lead back 4-3.
- The lead was short-lived, as CUW took it back to start the sixth, scoring three runs and going back up 6-4.
- With two innings to score, Rockford gave up six-straight outs to conclude game two, giving Concordia Wisconsin the win and sweep 6-4.
