ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team dropped its penultimate match of the season, 3-0 on Monday night to Augustana College. Rockford hung with the Vikings in each of the three sets, but unfortunately, it was Augustana who strung together late runs in each set to post the 25-20, 25-14 and 25-16 wins. Monday's match was the first ever meeting between the Regents and Vikings.
- The Vikings steadily built their lead up to as many as six points at 15-9 midway through the first set.
- Rockford then scored six of the next seven points, including four straight, to pull back within one at 16-15. Connor McNear and Josh Albers bookended the run with a kill each.
- However, Augustana responded with a 3-0 run of its own to make 19-15 game.
- The Regents were never able to get any closer than three the rest of the way, as the Vikings won the opening set 25-20.
- The second set got off to a similar start, with Augustana jumping out to an 11-6 advantage.
- Rockford was able to work its way back to within three points at 13-10.
- Unfortunately, the Vikings scored the next eight points en route to winning the second set 25-14 and taking a 2-0 lead.
- The Regents played much better to start the third set, leading by as many as two points thanks to a pair of kills from Nathan Vana.
- With the set now tied at 5-5, the Vikings used a 6-1 run to retake the lead at 11-6.
- Rockford was unable to get any closer than four the remainder of the day, dropping the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
