ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team lost a hard-fought match 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-17) to the Marian University Sabres on Saturday afternoon. Although Rockford did not attack the ball particularly well, the Regents played excellent defense throughout the match and forced Marian into 29 attack errors. However, the difference in the match was Marian finished with 52 kills compared to just 18 for Rockford.
- The Regents jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead to start the match, capped off by a Jalyn Rhodes kills.
- However, the Sabres scored 13 of the next 17 points to take a 14-9 advantage.
- Unfortunately, Rockford never got any closer than three the rest of the way and dropped the first set 25-15.
- The second set got off to the exact same start with Rockford sprinting out to a 5-1 advantage. Tamsy Leverton opened the Regent scoring with a kill and Melody Moreno added a service ace.
- Rockford's lead hovered around four points until Marian went on a 3-0 run to pull back within one at 14-13.
- With the Regents now leading by three at 20-17, the Sabres scored the next five points to take their first lead of the set since 1-0.
- Marian then had a pair of set points at 24-22, but Rockford spoiled both to tie it up at 24-24.
- Unfortunately, the Sabres proceeded to score the final two points to win the set 26-24 and take a 2-0 lead.
- The third set began with Marian taking an early 9-6 advantage.
- However, Rockford got things rolling with a 5-0 run to grab an 11-9 lead.
- With the set now tied at 15-15, Marian ended on a 10-2 run to win the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
