CHICAGO, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team fell in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at Illinois Tech. The Scarlet Hawks powered past the Regents in the first and third sets, but Rockford led for the majority of the second. Unfortunately, Illinois Tech used an 8-2 spurt to win that set as well en route to the 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-14) win. The loss drops the Regents to 0-3 all-time against the Scarlet Hawks.
- Illinois Tech opened the match on a 7-2 run to take an early lead.
- With the Scarlet Hawks still leading by five at 10-5, Rockford used a 5-2 spurt to get back within two. Isaiah Dixon had a kill for Rockford during that span.
- Unfortunately, Illinois Tech proceeded to score the next nine points en route to winning the first set 25-16.
- The second set had a different feel to it with the Regents jumping out to a 10-6 advantage. Connor McNear, Danny Karpenko and Isaiah Dixon all smashed home kills to help put the Regents out in front.
- With Rockford still holding a 12-9 advantage, Illinois Tech went on a 5-1 run to grab its first lead since 3-2.
- The set went back and forth over the next several points as the Regents still trailed by one at 21-20.
- However, the Scarlet Hawks scored four of the next five points to take the set 25-21 and grab a 2-0 lead.
- Illinois Tech scored the first six points to begin the third set.
- The Scarlet Hawks then proceeded to use an 8-1 run midway through to take a commanding 16-5 advantage.
- Rockford never got any closer than eight the rest of the way, dropping the third set 25-14 and the match 3-0.
