Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Drops Both to the Warriors

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University softball team dropped a pair of games 4-2 and 10-0 to the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors in a Thursday afternoon conference doubleheader. Rockford got another solid performance from Mariah Martinez in the circle, who did not allow a hit until the 4th inning and battled through 5.1 strong innings. The Regents were leading in this game 2-1 through five innings, until the Warriors were able to tie the game in the 6th and take a 4-2 lead in the 7th eventually holding Rockford in check and taking game one. In game two, the Warriors jumped on the Regents early and often, scoring in each of the first four innings to get out to a 5-0 lead. Rockford found it tough to get the offense going and were held stagnant by Warrior pitching. WLC later took control of the game with a 5-run 6th inning, to go up 10-0 and this ultimately led to the Warriors taking game two in 6 innings.

Recap Recap
Wisconsin Lutheran 4 Rockford 2
  • Rockford's Mariah Martinez and WLC's Melissa Tonna were both dealing in the circle to start the game, Martinez did not allow a hit until the 4th inning, which was unfortunately a solo shot to put the Warriors up 1-0.
  • The Regents battled right back in their half of the 4th with a lead-off inside-the-park home run by Chayton Krueger to tie the game up and after a single and steal by Bella Lima, Kariana Willias was able to drive her in with a double into the left-center gap to give Rockford a 2-1 lead.
  • Both teams were held in check until the top of the 6th, WLC was able to plate a run on an RBI single up the middle to tie the game up at 2-2.
  • WLC was able to keep it going in the top of the 7th with a sacrifice fly and an error to grab a 4-2 lead with just 3 outs left for Rockford's offense.
  • The Regents were able to get the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the 7th, but the Warriors were able to hold on and take game one 4-2.
Wisconsin Lutheran 10 Rockford 0
  • The Warriors got their offense going early, getting an RBI single in the first to go up 1-0 and an RBI triple and double in the second inning to go up 3-0.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran again was able to score one each in the third and fourth to cushion its lead to 5-0.
  • Rockford was able to get a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the 4th, but could not get anything going.
  • The Warriors took control of the game on a 5-run top of the 6th on just 5 hits to take a 10-0 lead and force the Regents to score to continue the game.
  • Unfortunately, the Regents were unable to get anything going in the bottom of the 6th and WLC was able to win game two 10-0 and walk away with the sweep.
