ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University softball team dropped a pair of games this afternoon 10-2 and 5-3 in a doubleheader matchup with the Marian University Sabres. In game one, the Regents struck first, grabbing a quick 1-0 lead and Marian followed along with a run of their own in the 2nd to tie it up at 1-1. The Regents were able to take a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning, but the Sabres scored three runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings to take a commanding 10-2 lead, which led to the game one win for the Sabres. In game two, the Sabres struck first this time, going up 1-0 in the 2nd inning. Rockford responded in the 4th inning with a 2-run blast into center by
Emily Down to give the Regents the 2-1 lead and tacked on another in the 4th to make it a 3-1 lead. The Sabres were able to put together a 4-run 5th inning to take a 5-3 lead and despite the effort from the Regents to battle back into the game, Marian was able to hold on and take game two.

Marian 10 Rockford 2
- After a quick top of the 1st, the Regents were able to strike first with a lead-off walk by Jocelyn Callahan, followed by a sac bunt to advance Callahan to third and Emily Down drove her in with an RBI single up the middle to start Rockford out 1-0.
- Marian was able to respond quickly with a run in the top of the 2nd on a home run to left to make it a 1-1 game.
- The Regents were able to take the lead in the bottom of the 3rd after Olivia Lysaght singled to start the inning, followed single from Emily Down and a bunt from Michaela Froehlich to set up 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and Chayton Krueger was able to plate Lysaght with an RBI double down the right field line to give the Regents the 2-1 lead.
- The Sabres came right back and put up a 3-run top of the 4th on a 2-run home run and an RBI bunt to take a 4-2 lead.
- Marian added 3 more runs in the top of the 5th and another 3 in the top of the 6th to take a commanding 10-2 lead and force the Regents to score in their next at bat to continue the game.
- The Regents did get the run they needed in scoring position, but the Sabres were able to hold on for the 10-2 game one win.
Marian 5 Rockford 3
- The Sabres were able to strike first in the top of the 2nd on a sacrifice fly to give Marian the 1-0 lead.
- Both offenses were held in check by good starting pitching, until the bottom of the 4th inning the Regents were able to get a lead-off single by Olivia Lysaght and then a 2-run nuke to dead center by Emily Down, followed by a double from Kariana Williams and eventually an RBI single by Lauren Zielinski to give the Regents a 3-1 lead.
- The Sabres were able to respond with a 4-run inning in their half of the 5th with a 3-run home run to make it a 4-3 game and then a steal of home to make it a 5-3 game.
- The Regents were able to get a base runner in each of the next 3 innings, but unfortunately could not get anything going and Marian was able to walk away with the 5-3 game two win.

- Emily Down went 1-4 with a 2-run home run and a run scored.
- Kaylee Jarrard pitched a solid 1.2 innings of relief, only allowing 1 hit and picking up a strikeout.
