MADISON, Wis. -- The Rockford University women's volleyball team went 0-2 at the Edgewood Triangular on Saturday afternoon. The Regents were swept in both matches, falling to Edgewood University in the first match and Carroll University in the second.
The Regents will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 23, with a 7 p.m. CDT NACC match at Benedictine University.
Edgewood 3, Rockford 0 (EU 25-13, 25-19, 27-25)
Amelia Rodriguez led RU offensively with 11 kills. With assists,
Leila Cooks and
Isabella Valdes had nine and eight each.
Ashley Miller made three aces.
On the defensive side,
Keara Ross led the Regents with 13 digs and Rodriguez made four blocks.
The Regents got off to a hot start up 4-0 in the first set until the Eagles went on a 12-0 scoring run to run away with the first set.
RU took a 4-1 lead to start the second set as both teams went back-and-forth after an 11-4 run for EU to take a 12-8 lead. The Regents hung around as Ross smashed an ace to make it 18-18. However, the Eagles won the second set ending the set on a 6-1 run.
In the third set, the Regents comeback fell short. Trailing 20-13, RU went on a 6-1 run to pull to within two at 21-19. Two kills by EU made it 23-19 until RU scored four unanswered to tie the game at 23-23. From there, back-to-back attack errors from both teams resulted in a deuce. Back-to-back attack errors from the Regents from that point resulted in a match won by the Eagles.
Carroll 3, Rockford 0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-9)
Miller led the Regents offensively with six kills. Cooks led RU with 12 assists and 14 digs.
CU competed the comeback in the first set. Trailing 22-20, three errors from RU along with two kills allowed CU to complete a 5-0 run to win the first set. In the second and third sets, the Regents never had the lead as the Pioneers rolled to a sweep.
