ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's flag football team fell 26-12 to the Bryant and Stratton College Bobcats to wrap up its inaugural season Wednesday afternoon. Clare Strong had a game to remember, compiling two interceptions on defense and racking up 7 receptions for 120 yards and two scores on offense. Outside of that, Rockford struggled to get going offensively for most of the afternoon, eventually falling by a final score of 26-12.
- Bryant and Stratton marched down the field on its first possession of the day, but fortunately senior Clare Strong put a stop to that, picking off the Bobcats at the goal line to give possession back to the Regents.
- Despite that, the Bobcats struck first after both teams held their first possession as Bryant and Stratton's Sarah Leibowitz was able to put her team on the board with a pick-six to give them a 7-0 lead.
- However, the Regents responded right back on their next drive, on the very first play as Amari Camacho-Anderson found Clare Strong for a 66-yard touchdown strike to make it a 7-6 game.
- Bryant and Stratton added to its lead with a five-play 30-yard touchdown drive that ended in a 16-yard touchdown catch that gave the Bobcats a 13-6 lead with just a minute and 23 seconds left in the first half.
- Neither team was able to score again before the end of the first half and the Bobcats led 13-6 heading into the break.
- After Rockford was able to hold Bryant and Stratton off the board to open the second half, the Regents made it just a one-point game on the ensuing drive.
- On the third play of the drive, the Regents pulled out the hook and ladder as Amari Camacho-Anderson found Maureen Shelton, who pitched it to Clare Strong for the 28-yard touchdown score to make it a 13-12 game.
- The Bobcats responded right back with a four play 66-yard touchdown drive that ended in a 43-yard touchdown that gave Bryant and Stratton a 19-12 lead.
- Bryant and Stratton took control of the game with nearly a six-minute drive that resulted in a 3-yard touchdown catch to give the Bobcats a commanding 26-12 lead with just under seven minutes remaining.
- Unfortunately, Rockford struggled to get much of anything going in the fourth quarter, being held to just 31 yards in the quarter, ultimately allowing the Bobcats to hang on for the 26-12 win over the Regents.
- Clare Strong caught 7 passes for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns. She also compiled 3 tackles and 2 interceptions, one on a one-point conversion and the other that she returned 19 yards to halt a Bobcat drive.
- Daniela Torres-Mandujano added 3 tackles, a tackle for loss and a sack.
- Gina Neils had a team-high 6 tackles and 2 pass breakups.
