BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's flag football team fell twice to the hosts, Illinois Wesleyan University 20-6, before falling to Marian University in the second game, 12-7.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, April 25, when they will play at the NACC Tournament with the first game of the day set for noon CDT.
Game One: Illinois Wesleyan 20, Rockford 6
Amari Camacho-Anderson got the majority of the snaps behind center and went 10-17 through the air, throwing for 61 yards with a touchdown and a pick.
Quentasia Mills once again had another great day on the ground, breaking the century mark for the fifth time this season, rushing for 101 yards on 15 carries. Mills also went 2-4 passing, throwing for eight yards.
Mercedes Morales and
Maureen Shelton were the leading pass catchers for the Regents. Morales caught four passes for 35 yards while Shelton made two catches with 21 total receiving yards.
Morales made a team-high nine tackles. Mills was also active defensively, totaling eight tackles, along with a sack and another tackle for loss.
Te Simpson had the other Regent sack of the day, while making another tackle.
The Regents drew first blood when Camacho-Anderson threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to
Tekiyah Gray on a quick three-play drive. The PAT attempt failed as Rockford led 6-0, holding that lead until the end of the first quarter.
IWU exploded offensively in the second quarter, scoring two passing touchdowns in the final 8:47 of first-half action, taking a 14-6 lead going into halftime.
Unfortunately for the Regents, the offense struggled to score as they were held at six points the remainder of the game, as the Titans scored once more in the third quarter on an eight-play 34-yard drive, which took 4:05, as IWU's defense stood strong to come out on top.
Game Two: Marian 12, Rockford 7
Mills started at quarterback for the entire game, going 4-17 for 69 yards and an interception. On the ground, Mills had 14 rushing attempts for 76 yards.
Gray had two catches for 49 yards. Simpson and
Malaika Chambers had one reception each.
Kezia Jolicoeur totaled a team-high 11 tackles with one tackle for loss. Simpson had the team's lone sack of the game and finished the game with two tackles.
Both teams were scoreless after the first quarter in this defensive battle. Marian got on the board first with a nine-yard touchdown run, which was a three-play drive after a Rockford fumble, and went up 6-0 after failing the PAT attempt.
The Regents then marched right down the field and scored a touchdown on a five-play 66-yard drive in 2:55. Mills converted the PAT attempt to give Rockford a 7-6 lead and held it going into halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Sabres' special teams found paydirt when they scored on a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown and went up 12-7 after failing their PAT attempt. The Regents struggled offensively the rest of the way as a Marian interception ended the game.
