Game Recap: Women's Flag Football |

Regents Come up Short in Trip up North

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Rockford University women's flag football team took on the Marian University Sabres and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans on Thursday evening. They lost 27-0 to Marian and were just edged out by UW-Oshkosh, 19-15.

The Regents will return to action on Saturday, April 11, for two road games against Illinois College and Illinois Wesleyan starting at 11 a.m. CDT.

Game One: Marian 27, Rockford 0

Quentasia Mills started as the signal caller for the Regents. She was 13-of-23 for 76 yards through the air and two picks.

Mills also led the team in rushing, carrying the ball 11 times for 38 yards.

Tekiyah Gray snagged nine passes for 62 yards over the course of the ballgame. Malaika Chambers, Gina Neils, Mercedes Morales, and Reem Aldi all had one catch.

Neils led Rockford in flag pulls with nine. Morales had three of her own, with a pass breakup. Mills also broke up two passes on the defensive side of the ball.

Marian got it going early, scoring on its first possession off a 39-yard touchdown pass. The one-point attempt made it 7-0.

The Regents' offense wasn't able to answer back on their first drive, stalling out in Sabre territory.

That became the theme of the game, as the Sabres continued to march the ball down the field and the Regents struggled to keep up.

Marian scored twice more before the half to take a 19-0 lead into the break, adding another touchdown in the second half to seal a 27-0 victory.

Game Two: UW-Oshkosh 19, Rockford 15

Mills had slightly more success through the air against the Titans, throwing for 81 yards on 14-of-25 passing for a touchdown and an interception.

Her legs were once again the engine of the offense, accounting for 88 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

Neils led the Regents in receiving yards with 24 on three receptions, reeling in a touchdown as well. Gray once again led the team in catches with four for 14 yards.

Te Simpson was active on defense, putting together four TFLs, two sacks, seven flag pulls, and a pass breakup. Emily Lind had a big interception in the second half.

Most of this game's action came in the second half. Neither team scored in the first quarter, and the first score of the game came on a Titan fade ball down the left sideline with just over five minutes left in the half.

The Titans' excitement would be short-lived, as Gray picked off the ensuing two-point conversion and took it 80 yards to the house. This made it a 6-2 game going into the half.

After a mostly uneventful first 13 minutes of the second half, UW-Oshkosh threw another touchdown pass to take a 13-2 lead.

The Regents marched down the field and punched in their first touchdown of the game to start the fourth quarter. A Neils catch-and-run from the 10 yard line made the score 13-9 after the successful conversion.

Lind jumped an out route on the Titans' next possession to give RU the ball back in Oshkosh territory.

The Regents ran three minutes off the clock before scoring and taking the lead. This time, it was a Mills scramble from inside the ten. A failed one-point try kept the score 15-13.

UW-Oshkosh methodically chunked down the field on their next drive, throwing its third touchdown and taking a 19-15 lead with two minutes left.

Rockford's two-minute drill was unsuccessful, ending in a punt from the near midfield line. The Titans ran out the rest of the clock to secure the win.
