ST. MARY-WOODS, Ind. -- The Rockford University men's volleyball team lost in the final game of the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Tournament falling short to Simpson University (Calif.) 3-0. Set scores were 25-15, 25-16, 25-22.
Jordan Hurst had a team-high nine kills with an ace.
Tsubasa Namai had 22 assists and led the Regents defensively with eight digs.
Aaron John Reyes, Hurst, and
Josh Bowling all had one block.
Simpson (CA) took care of business in the first set not surrendering the lead once, jumping out to an 11-3 lead and keeping its foot on the gas to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Unfortunately for the Regents, the second set was the same as they were never able to grab the lead once in the second. The Red Hawks once again took a big lead early and cruised their way to a second-set victory.
Hurst got the third set rolling for the Regents taking a 1-0 lead early. This set was very competitive with each team having their own set of spurts. Trailing 19-15, the Regents then went on a 4-0 spurt to tie the game at 19. The Regents then took their first lead when they last had it up 2-1 earlier in the set, when they grabbed a 21-20 lead.
Simpson (CA) then responded with two-straight kills to take the lead in which was never surrendered, as the Red Hawks ended the game as a result of two kills and a service error.
The Regents will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 10, when they will host Aurora University at 7 p.m. CST in the Seaver Center in the NACC conference and home opener.
