GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Rockford University men's volleyball team fell to non-conference opponent The University of Olivet, 3-0, on Friday in the second game of the Calvin University Invite. Set scores were 31-29, 25-17, 25-21.
Jordan Hurst led Rockford in kills with eight to lead the team for the second straight game on the day.
Josh Bowling added seven digs along with an ace.
Tsubasa Namai also led the team in assists for the second straight game on the day with 28.
Tucker Loegler Haig led Rockford in aces with two.
Defensively,
Jacob Brewster led the Regents totaling nine digs while
Aaron John Reyes led the team with four blocks.
It was a very competitive high-scoring first set. Both teams had their fair share of runs. The Regents built up the largest lead of the set, when they took a five point 21-16 lead. The Comets then scored four unanswered to pull to within one, and eventually tied the game at 25. Unfortunately for the Regents, Olivet scored on back to back kills as both teams scored way beyond 25 points in the first set, as the Comets won 31-29.
The Regents kept pace early in the second set as both teams were tied at 10. The Comets then went on a 9-1 run to take a 20-11 lead to eventually win the set 25-17.
Similar to the first set, both teams went back and forth deep into the final set. Tied at 19-19, Olivet surged and proceeded to go on a 5-1 spurt, then sealed the match with a service error from the Regents.
The Regents will conclude the Calvin University Invite with matches against Franklin College at 3 p.m. EST and Calvin University at 5:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 14.
