WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Rockford University men's volleyball team swept non-conference opponent Maranatha Baptist University, 3-0, on Tuesday. Set scores were 26-24, 25-19, 25-19.
Josh Bowling made 11 kills while
Carter Moore had his season-high with 10.
Aaron John Reyes had seven.
Tsubasa Namai led the Regents with 33 assists, and
Jordan Hurst tallied one ace to round out the offensive production for the Regents.
Jacob Brewster totaled 11 digs while Bowling, Hurst, and Namai each recorded five, four, and two blocks respectively.
Maranatha Baptist jumped out to a 9-5 lead and maintained it to the near end of the first set. Maranatha Baptist led 24-21, but Rockford scored five straight ending with back-to-back kills from Bowling, giving the Regents a 1-0 lead.
Kills from Reyes and Moore pushed the Regents out to a 3-0 lead in the second set, a set in which they lead the entire way. The Sabercats kept it close but a kill from Moore to end the second set extended the Rockford lead to 2-0.
Rockford also led the entire third and final set, going on a 6-0 run tied at 3 to push its lead out to 9-3 with kills from Bowling and Namai in that stretch. Maranatha Baptist had one more push but similar to the second set, the Sabercats could never catch the Regents, leading to the three-set win for the Regents.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, March 14, when they face NACC conference opponent Wisconsin Lutheran College at noon CDT.
