NAPLES, Fla. -- The Rockford University softball team finished off day three of their spring break trip with games against SUNY Potsdam and Alfred State. They fell to Potsdam 4-3 in game one and beat Alfred State 5-1.
The Regents will conclude their trip tomorrow, March 11, with games against Elms College and Bethany College at 9 a.m. and 11Â a.m. EDT.
Game One: SUNY Potsdam 4, Rockford 3
Tomi Hill had two singles in the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Mia Cosentino was 2-for-3 with a couple singles and a walk.
Kendall Knoll got the start in the circle, giving up three earned runs and striking out four Bears in four innings.
Claire Shanahan came in relief, giving up no hits in her two innings of work.
The Regents got on the board first in the top of the second.
Nicole Paris scored off a throwing error early in the inning and
Kieran Madigan was driven in by Hill to put RU up 2-0.
The score stayed that way until the bottom of the third, when Potsdam scored three runs with two outs to take the lead, 3-2.
The Bears extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring off of an error to go up 4-2.
Rockford remained down two until the top of the seventh. Shanahan and Hill each singled to put the tying run on base.
Liz Mois lined a ball of the right fielder's glove to drive in Shanahan and bring the game within one.
Unfortunately, the tying run was left stranded as Potsdam got the outs they needed to secure the win, 4-3.
Game Two: Rockford 5, Alfred State 1
Brooklyn Lee was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Alexis Schuldt drove in two runs and was 1-for-2 at the plate.
Neelah Vandeberg also singled twice in three at-bats.
Claire Shanahan got the win in game two. She was stellar in the circle, giving up just one run in five innings of action.
Kendall Knoll closed out the Pioneers, with a couple of strikeouts in two scoreless innings.
Both teams scored in the first inning. After Alfred State got it started, the Regents answered with a run of their own off a
Kaylee Jarrard RBI, driving in Lee.Â
Rockford took the lead in the second off of a
Linnea Nelson sac fly into left field that scored
Olivia Lysaght.Â
After no runs in the third inning, Rockford got the bats going again in the bottom of the fourth. Schuldt drove in both Nelson and Shanahan with a single to right field. She was then driven in by a Lee single to extend their lead, 5-1.
Neither team scored for the rest of the game. Shanahan and Knoll held the Pioneers scoreless over the final three innings to secure a Regent's victory, 5-1.
