ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University men's volleyball team lost to NACC conference opponent Marian University, 3-0, on Saturday at the Seaver Center. Set scores were 25-17, 25-16, 25-16.
Josh Bowling led Rockford with seven kills.
PJ Peden had a team-high nine assists.
Nathan Simons made 12 digs while Bowling also led the team with five blocks.
Rockford and Marian were neck and neck early. The Sabres went on a 5-0 run then the Regents followed it by going on a 3-0 run of their own with two kills from Bowling along with an attack error from the Sabres, as the Regents trailed 13-11. Marian then went on a 7-3 run to take a 20-14 lead. From that point on until the rest of the set, the Regents only scored three more times with kills from
Ethan Pedroza and
Joseis Dixon, and an attack error from Marian.
A kill from Bowling and an attack error from Marian got the Regents off to a 2-0 lead in the second set. The Sabres eventually caught up as the set was tied at four and proceeded to score 11 straight, trailing 15-4. The Sabres extended their lead to 21-8 as the Regents then went on a 6-1 run. Unfortunately for the Regents, the Sabres were able to plant four more kills to take a 2-0 lead.
The Regents only saw the lead once in the final set when they lead 3-2. A 7-0 run for the Sabres with the game tied at four, was too much for the Regents as they were never able to regain momentum in the set.
The Regents will return to action on Thursday, March 26, when they will face NACC conference opponent St. Norbert College at 6:30 p.m. CDT.
