Men's Volleyball Loses to St. Norbert

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University men's volleyball team fell short to NACC conference opponent St. Norbert College, 3-0, on Thursday. Set scores were 25-14, 25-23, 25-13.

Josh Bowling once again led the Regents with eight kills. Jacob Brewster led the team with 13 assists and Ethan Pedroza smashed an ace to round out the offensive production.

Defensively, Nathan Simons totaled nine digs while Pedroza and Aaron John Reyes each had a team-high two blocks.

An attack error right out of the gate from St. Norbert put Rockford ahead 1-0 which was the only lead the Regents had in the first set. The Green Knights pulled away when they scored six straight, taking a 19-10 lead as the Regents were unable to turn the momentum back in their favor.

Rockford fought back twice in the second set but unfortunately were unable to get over the top. The Green Knights went on a 9-4 run to erase a 10-9 lead for the Regents and went up 18-14. Rockford trimmed the deficit to one with kills from Bowling, Joseis Dixon, Jordan Hurst, and John Reyes as St. Norbert led 19-18. Three-straight errors then hurt the Regents as St. Norbert led 22-18. The Regents did not quit, as St. Norbert followed the Rockford errors with four-straight as the Regents regained the lead 23-22. However, two Regent errors and a kill allowed St. Norbert to win the set and go up 2-0.

A kill from Carter Moore put the regents ahead 1-0 which would be the only lead they had in the final set, as St. Norbert then went on a 7-0 run and kept the momentum on its side to win the match.

The Regents will return to action on Saturday, March 28, when they will compete at the Franklin Triangular. First match will be vs. Franklin College at 11 a.m. EDT and the second match will be vs. Greenville University at 1 p.m. EDT.
