MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Rockford University baseball team went north for a NACC doubleheader against the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders on Saturday, losing 6-0 in game one, and dropping the second game 12-2.
The Regents will return to action on Tuesday, March 31, when they go back on the road for a doubleheader against Dominican starting at 1 p.m. CDT.
Game One: MSOE 6, Rockford 0
The offense struggled to start the day.
Blaise Mace and
Zach Fabis were the only Regents to register a hit, both singles.
Alex Easton started for Rockford. He put together seven innings of work, striking out four Raiders and giving up nine hits and five earned runs.
Logan Bennett pitched in the eighth, giving up a hit and an earned run.
The pitching was dominant over the first three innings. The Regents' first hit came off of a Mace single in the third. Neither team scored until the fourth.
That's when the Raiders took control. A Kyle Mayberry three-run homer gave them a 3-0 lead.Â
MSOE added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a five run lead.
The Regents' best chance to get on the board was in the bottom of the eighth when they moved
Austin Massat to third with two outs. A groundout ended the inning.
The Raiders added another run in the bottom of the eighth to give them their sixth and win the first game 6-0.
Game Two: MSOE 12, Rockford 2
The next game was a similar story at the plate for Rockford. Fabis had two of the four hits, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
Jeremiah Olson had the lone RBI, driving in
Preston Sewell in the seventh.Â
Kyle Koerner was given the ball in game two. He gave up six earned runs across four innings.
Frank Koopmann,
Hunter Pavia, and
Nick Rich threw an inning each, with Rich giving up no hits or runs in his appearance.
The Regents scored the first run of the game in the top of the first.
Bryce Stanton reached on an error, bringing home
Kadin Bergstrom from third to go up 1-0.
That was Rockford's only lead. The Raiders tied the game in the second and blew it open in the third, scoring four runs off of multiple walks and some Regents' miscues to take the upper hand 5-1.
The fourth wasn't any better. The Raiders scored five more runs off of three hits to take a 10-1 lead. They weren't done scoring, snatching two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Rockford made it 12-2 in the seventh and final inning. Olson pinched hit with two outs with Sewell on second. His single brought Sewell home to cut the deficit to ten.
That is where it stayed. MSOEÂ closed out the inning and secured the sweep with a 12-2 win.
