ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University baseball team hosted the Aurora University Spartans on Tuesday, earning a 7-2 win as game two of the doubleheader was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Regents will return to action tomorrow, April 15, for one game against UW-Parkside at 1 p.m. CDT.
Rockford 7, Aurora 2
Kadin Bergstrom was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer. That long ball moved him into first on Rockford's career home run list.
Marcus Taylor was a triple away from the cycle, going 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Nate Burdin also drove in two runs from the leadoff spot.
Alex Easton went seven strong innings, striking out five and not giving up a run until the seventh.
Bartolo Rodriguez came in to close, quickly shutting the door on the Spartans in the form of no hits across two innings.
Rockford didn't waste any time at the plate. Bergstrom hit his two-run bomb in the first, driving in Burdin. Taylor would score later in the inning to put RU up 3-0.
Zach Fabis knocked in
David Wilhite with a single through the right side in the second to take a four-run lead. They tacked on another in the third via a Taylor leadoff homer, leading 5-0 after three.
After a scoreless fourth, the Regents put up two more runs in the fifth. Burdin came through with two outs, scoring Wilhite and
Zach Duke with a single to left field.Â
Easton was stellar on the bump through the sixth. Aurora finally scored in the seventh, snatching two runs to cut into the lead and make it a 7-2 ballgame.
Rodriguez got the call from the pen in the eighth, mowing down six of the seven batters he faced. Rockford walked off the field with a 7-2 victory.
