ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University baseball team swept St. Norbert College in a NACC doubleheader on Saturday. The Regents won game one 19-4 and game two 15-0, with both games ending in seven innings.
The Regents will return to action on Monday, April 20, with a road matchup against Beloit College at 3 p.m. CDT.
Game One: Rockford 19, St. Norbert 4
Six Regents finished with multiple hits. Trent Lawrence was 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs. Ryan Stary went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Kadin Bergstrom and Zach Duke were each 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Zach Fabis earned the win on the mound, tossing five innings and allowing just one run on three hits. Joey Bisesi and Brendan Fitzpatrick combined to close out the game in relief.
Both teams scored in the first inning, with St. Norbert plating a run on a sacrifice fly. Rockford responded with three runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-run home run from Lawrence.
The Regents extended their lead in the fourth inning. Lawrence hit his second home run of the game, Duke added an RBI double, and Rockford capitalized on additional opportunities to build a 7-1 advantage.
Rockford broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring nine runs. Stary launched a three-run home run, and Bergstrom added an RBI double as the Regents took control.
The Regents added three more runs in the sixth inning to secure the 19-4 victory.
Game Two: Rockford 15, St. Norbert 0
Lawrence continued his strong performance in game two, going 2-for-3 with a grand slam. Bergstrom and Marcus Taylor each went 3-for-4, with Taylor driving in three runs.
Logan Koeller earned the win, striking out six and allowing just one hit over five scoreless innings. Nick Rich and Bartolo Rodriguez each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
After holding St. Norbert scoreless in the top of the first, Rockford scored four runs in the bottom half on Lawrence's grand slam.
The Regents added six runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 10-0, taking advantage of timely hitting and St. Norbert miscues.
Rockford capped the scoring with a five-run sixth inning, cruising to a 15-0 victory to complete the doubleheader sweep.
