DE PERE, Wis. -- The Rockford University softball team split with NACC conference opponent St. Norbert College on Saturday. The Regents fell 9-6 in the first game before winning the second game 14-5 in five innings to split with the Green Knights.
The Regents will return to action on Sunday, April 19, for a pair of games on the road against NACC conference opponent Aurora University starting at noon CDT.
Game One: St. Norbert 9, Rockford 6
Liz Mois went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI while Payton Willenkamp went 1-for-3 with a home run.
Kendall Knoll started in the circle, working three innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Neelah Vandeberg threw 2 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Lorelei Monk recorded one strikeout in the final 2/3 inning.
St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead with an RBI in the first inning.
After two scoreless innings, the Green Knights plated four runs in the fourth inning, scoring on a throwing error, a two-RBI double and an RBI groundout.
Rockford responded with four runs in the fifth inning. Vandeberg and Alexis Schuldt each delivered RBI doubles, Vandeberg later scored on a wild pitch, and Mois added an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-4.
St. Norbert answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 6-4.
The Green Knights sealed the game with three runs in the sixth inning.
Game Two: Rockford 14, St. Norbert 5
Mois went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Linnea Nelson finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a home run that tied the program's single-season record with 22.
Claire Shanahan pitched all five innings, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts.
Rockford jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Mois led off with an RBI triple, while Sophia Hulsey and Shanahan each added RBI singles to give the Regents a 3-0 advantage.
St. Norbert scored in the first and second innings with an RBI single and an unearned run, cutting the lead to 3-2.
The Regents broke the game open in the third inning. Nelson drove in a run with a single, Madigan reached on a fielding error, Tayiah Scanlan drew an RBI walk, Brooklyn Lee added an RBI, and Mois capped the inning with a two-RBI single to make it 9-2.
The Green Knights scored one unearned run in the bottom of the third.
Rockford added to its lead in the fourth inning with a two-run home run from Nelson and an RBI single from Scanlan.
St. Norbert scored two runs in the fourth inning on a fielding error and an RBI triple, but trailed 12-5.
The Regents added two more runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles from Willenkamp and Shanahan.
Rockford recorded the final three outs in the fifth inning to secure the split.
