MEQUON, Wis. -- The Rockford University softball team played the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in a NACC doubleheader on Friday afternoon. RU fell 13-0 in game one, and 8-0 in game two.
The Regents are back in action on Monday, April 6, when they head to Chicago for a doubleheader against CUC starting at 2:30 p.m. CDT.
Game One: Concordia Wisconsin 13, Rockford 0
Tomi Hill was 1-for-1 with a double to right field to lead off the game.Â
Payton Willenkamp,
McKenna Morris, and
Olivia Lysaght were each 1-for-2 with a single.
Kendall Knoll started in the circle, giving up seven hits and ten earned runs in just under two innings of action.
Neelah Vandeberg pitched in relief, striking out two and giving up a run of her own in two-and-a-third.
The Falcons showed why they are reigning conference champions in the first game of the day. They put up five runs in the first inning before anyone could blink.
The second was even better for CUW offensively. Putting up four hits and capitalizing on Regent errors, adding seven more runs to take full control up 12-0.
After giving up another run in the third, Rockford had a great opportunity to grab a run of their own. Willenkamp, Morris, and Lysaght each singled consecutively to load the bases with one out. Unfortunately, the Regents would stay there, as the Falcons struck out the next two Regents to end the inning.
Neither team scored from that point on, as CUW took game one of the doubleheader 13-0.
Game Two: Concordia Wisconsin 8, Rockford 0
Willenkamp and Lysaght matched their performances in game one, both going 1-for-2 with a single in the second game.Â
Morris started for Rockford, throwing just under four innings and giving up six earned runs on seven hits.
Lorelei Monk finished the game, giving up two earned runs on four hits.
Concordia Wisconsin struck first, pushing a run across in the first, adding three more runs in the second off of just two hits to go up 4-0.Â
Both of Rockford's hits came in the top of the second and unfortunately couldn't find its rhythm offensively in game two.Â
CUW was scoreless in the third and couldn't be held down for long, picking up two runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth to grab an 8-0 victory and seal the sweep.
