FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets early Saturday afternoon to the Marian University Sabres. Despite what the final score might indicate, all three sets were fairly close much of the way and Rockford held leads in each set. Unfortunately, Marian was able to string together enough key points for the 25-22, 25-21, 25-18 victory.
- Rockford opened the match on a 7-2 run to jump out to an early lead. Della Crain delivered a trio of service aces and three different Regents recorded a kill over that span.Â
- However, Marian used an 8-2 run of its own to retake the lead at 10-9.
- With the set now tied at 18-18, the Sabres scored 6 of the next 8 points to seize control of the match.Â
- The Regents were able to score the next three points to put a little pressure on Marian, but unfortunately, the Sabres scored the final point to win the set 25-22 and take a 1-0 lead.
- The second set was very close throughout, with the entire set being played in a 6-point range.Â
- With Rockford trailing 23-19, the Regents got back-to-back kills from Alex Burton and Melody Moreno to make it 23-21.Â
- However, the Sabres answered with two straight points to win the second set 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead.Â
- The Regents began the third set on a 5-2 run off three kills by three different players and a pair of service aces.Â
- Unfortunately, Marian promptly went on a 12-1 run to seize control of the set and ultimately the match.Â
- Rockford was unable to get any closer than 6 the rest of the way, dropping the third set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
