CHICAGO, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 on the road Tuesday night to the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks. The Scarlet Hawks led in basically every major statistical category, including kills (38-24), total blocks (8-1), assists (34-19) and digs (47-33). Illinois Tech won the first set going away, but Rockford rebounded and fought the Scarlet Hawks tooth and nail in the second set. However, it was once again IIT that emerged victorious and took a 2-0 lead. The Scarlet Hawks were then able to coast to victory in the third and win the match in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-16.
- The Scarlet Hawks jumped out to a 19-5 lead in the first set and never looked back.
- Rockford was unable to get any closer than eight the rest of the way and fell 25-16.
- The second set was much closer, with Rockford leading for the first time since the first few points of the match.
- Rockford scored five straight points early on and took a 7-6 advantage. Brynn Atwell led the Regent run with three straight service aces.
- With the Regents still holding an 11-10 lead, the Scarlet Hawks scored 9 of the next 11 points to leap back out in front 19-13.
- However, Rockford promptly went on a 4-1 run to cut the IIT lead back down to three at 20-17. Della Crain scored two of the four points with an ace and a kill.
- Unfortunately, the Scarlet Hawks scored the final five points to win the set 25-17 and take a 2-0 lead.
- The third set once again belonged to IIT.
- Illinois Tech opened on a 15-5 run to take a commanding lead.
- Rockford did not get any closer than eight the rest of the match, dropping the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
