ROCKFORD, Ill. The Rockford University Men's Soccer team is ready to kick off its 2022 campaign under third-year head coach
Mike Chwistek. The men's team finished last year 5-11-1 with a number of memorable wins, including winning the state-line trophy in a 4-0 shutout of Beloit College, and first win against CUW in the NACC-era, shutting them out 2-0.
Players to Watch:
- Lorenzo Amador is currently making headlines in early season training, playing at one of the best levels seen so far. Amador held down the Regents defensive line last season, regularly seeing 90 minutes throughout the season. The junior from Beloit, Wis. recorded an assist last season, but will continue to facilitate the back line in 2022.
- Brandon Wilterdink returns to the regents back line as well. The outside back boasts unreal athleticism and pace on the pitch that is a great security blanket for the defense on fast break attempts. Wilterdink earned his regular starting role and after the first two matches, never missed a single minute the rest of the season.
- Joshua De Avila makes his much-needed return for Rockford after a season injured last year. The Plainfield Central graduate gets ready for his senior year helping command the midfield.
- Simeon Adesina returns for Rockford and has been continuing to develop this season. Adesina made the most of his split time in the forward position, scoring 2 goals and recording an assist last season.

"This is an exciting group of returners that have played a particularly important role in my first couple years here." remarked Chwistek. "They've seen so many changes and were the group who were a part of the program during the challenging COVID-19 year. They've remained committed and continue to grow as leaders in the team. While our upper-classmen are doing very well, the sophomore class have really dedicated themselves to training and I've seen a lot of improvement from them."
"Having said all this, we are still a young team, and we are going to continue to take it one day at a time. We want to win each day, whether that is a training session, game, or off the pitch in the classroom. We see the group continuing to progress day by day, one step at a time." concluded Coach Chwistek.

The Rockford Regents men's soccer team will open the season on the road at Manchester University on Thursday, September 1st. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm. Men's soccer will play its first NACC game on September 17th at Marian University.
