Regents Fall in 5-Set Affair to Lake Forest

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University Women's Volleyball team took a heartbreaking loss to the visiting Lake Forest College 3-2 in 5 sets. The Regents were rolling in the first half of the match winning the first two sets to lead the match 2-0 overall. Unfortunately for the Regents, the Foresters were able to win 3 straight sets to steal the overall match away, 3-2.

  • The Regents were rolling to start their match against the Foresters, commanding the first set early getting out to a 10-6 lead on 2 aces by Leila Cooks and 2 kills by Alexis Brashaw.
  • The Regents continued to keep the lead for the entirety of set 1, only tying once very early in the match, Rockford went out to win the first set 25-22, backed up by Amelia Rodriguez's 4 kills in the last 5 points for the Regents.
  • The second set was more of a back and forth effort from both sides leading to a 13-13 score midway through the set.
  • Rockford went on a 12-5 run over Lake Forest on 2 Kills from Alexis Brashaw and Alexx Burton and 1 by Tamsy Leverton to win the second set 25-18 to put themselves up 2-0 in the match. 
  • Rockford got out to a hot start in third set going up 10-5 to start, helped by 2 kills from Melody Moreno.
  • This set all of sudden turned into more of a back and forth affair and Lake Forest found themselves taking the match right away from Rockford winning 25-22 over the Regents to put the match at 2-1.
  • The forth set started evenly matched with the scoring being knotted up 7-7.
  • The Foresters ended up grabbing a 18-12 lead over the Regents, but the Regents fought with kills from Melody Moreno and Amelia Rodriguez, but it was not enough and the Foresters took the forth set 25-21 to tie the match up 2-2.
  • The fifth set also continued the theme of an early back and forth start, with the score being 4-4 with the Regents getting kills from Jasmine Landberg, Alexis Brashaw, and Melody Moreno
  • Unfortunately for Rockford, Lake Forest went on a 11-4 run to steal the fifth match away from the Regents 15-8 and win the match 3-2 on 3 straight set wins.
