ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University baseball team defeated non-conference opponent Monmouth College, 13-4, on Friday.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, March 21, to take on Marian University in a NACC doubleheader for their first two conference games of the season at 12 & 2 p.m. CDT at Regent Field.
Rockford 13, Monmouth 4
Zach Fabis went a perfect 5-for-5 with one RBI.
Trent Lawrence had a team-high three RBIs going 2-for-5 at the plate.
Nate Burdin and
Zach Duke also had multiple hits for the Regents with two each.
Bartolo Rodriguez improved his record to 2-0 on the season on the mound with six innings of work surrendering two earned runs off five hits and punching six batters out.
Hunter Pavia,
Joey Bisesi, and
Brendan Fitzpatrick all pitched one inning all striking out one batter.
After a scoreless first inning, Monmouth scored the first run of the game with an RBI triple. Rockford then responded in the bottom of the second plating six runs started off with an RBI single from Duke to tie the game.

Blaise Mace recorded a two-RBI double to center field.
Kadin Bergstrom then doubled to left center while Lawrence ended the inning with an RBI double to center field as the Regents took a 6-1 lead.
Each team scored one run each in the third and fourth innings. Monmouth scored one run in the third, in the fourth, Bergstrom plated an unearned run as a result of a throwing error from the catcher as the Regents led 7-2.
The Fighting Scots plated one run each in the fifth and sixth innings, as the Regents remained ahead 7-4.
Zach Fabis led off the seventh with a home run. Stary then had an RBI single to center field.
Tommaso Franceschelli then recorded a two-RBI triple to extend the Regent lead to 11-4.
Lawrence then launched a two-run home run to put the game away for the Regents.
