ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University softball team swept Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday in their conference-opening doubleheader, winning the first game 5-4 and completing the sweep, winning 8-5.
The Regents will return to action tomorrow, March 22, against NACC conference opponent, Dominican University at noon & 2 p.m. CDT.
Game One: Rockford 5, MSOE 4
Tayiah Scanlan went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Kendall Knoll,
McKenna Morris,
Brooklyn Lee,
Neelah Vandeberg, and
Olivia Lysaght all had one RBI in the game.
Knoll got the win in the circle and went the distance striking five batters out while giving up three earned runs off seven hits.
MSOE scored runs in the first and second innings plating one unearned run in the first and scoring as a result of an RBI single in the second to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
The Regents plated two in the third after Scanlan plated an unearned run due to an MSOE error. Lee then tallied an RBI double to tie the game at two after three.
After a scoreless fourth inning MSOE put up another run with an RBI single in the fifth. in the bottom of the fifth, Lysaght homered to tie the game at three.
The Raiders responded in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to take a 4-3 lead. Vandeberg tied the game for the Regents immediately in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to left field.
The Regents then had a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh. Morris then walked it off for the Regents in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to left center as the Regents grabbed a win in their conference opener.
Game Two: Rockford 8, MSOE 5
Tomi Hill and
Brooklyn Lee both went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Claire Shanahan also totaled two hits going 2-for-3.
Claire Shanahan got the start in the circle working five innings giving up three runs off seven hits and striking out one batter.
McKenna Morris came in for relief the final two innings and struck two batters giving up no earned runs and gave up three hits.
Rockford took a 2-0 lead with two unearned runs from
Brooklyn Lee and
Tomi Hill.
After two scoreless innings, Hill recorded an RBI single to left field. Lee then tallied a two-RBI single to plate two more runs as the Regents led 5-0 after four.
MSOE did not quit with an RBI double and two RBI singles to trim the Regent lead to two at 5-3.
The Regents then answered plating three runs in the fifth started off with an RBI single to left center from
Linnea Nelson, and two more RBI singles to left center from
Makayla Howard and
Kieran Madigan.
MSOE scored two more runs in the seventh with an RBI double and RBI single but the Regents secured the three outs to sweep the Raiders for the first time since 2009.
