Softball Swept By Dominican

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University softball team fell twice to the Dominican University Stars on Sunday.

The Regents will return to action on Saturday, March 28, when they head to Fond du Lac, Wis., for a road doubleheader against Marian starting at noon.

Game One: Dominican 10, Rockford 1

Tomi Hill and Liz Mois each went 1-for-3 in the first game, accounting for all of the Regents' hits. Brooklyn Lee had the lone RBI, drawing a walk with the bases loaded in the fifth.

Kendall Knoll started the game in the circle, giving up six hits and four earned runs in two innings. McKenna Morris and Lorelei Monk each appeared in relief as well, with Monk striking out two Stars in three innings.

Dominican jumped out in front early, scoring a run in the first and then three in the second to take a 4-0 lead.

The Regents' first hit came in the fourth inning, off a Mois single to center. They finally broke through in the run column at the bottom of the fifth, off the aforementioned Lee walk with the bases loaded.

Dominican tacked on two runs in the top of the seventh for insurance and eventually won the game, 10-1.

Game Two: Dominican 13, Rockford 0

It was all Dominican in game two. Mia Cosentino recorded the lone hit for the Regents, grounding a base hit up the middle as a pinch hitter in the fifth.

Claire Shanahan started for the Regents but only faced five batters, being taken out after getting hit in the head with a line drive. Kendall Knoll and Neelah Vandeberg combined to finish the game in the circle.

The Stars put up runs in each of the first three innings, heading into the fourth up 7-0.

Rockford was unable to get the bats going at all in this game, breaking the no-hitter with a Cosentino lead-off single in the fifth.

The Stars scored six runs in the top of the fifth to put themselves firmly in the driver's seat and finish the sweep with a 13-0 win in game two.
