ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University softball team faced off against the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors on Saturday afternoon, dropping both games, 8-0 and 11-5.
The Regents will return to action tomorrow, April 12, for another home doubleheader against the Edgewood Eagles starting at noon CDT.
Game One: Wisconsin Lutheran 8, Rockford 0
Brooklyn Lee was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a trio of singles.
Tomi Hill was 1-for-3 with a double in the leadoff spot.
Kendall Knoll was stellar in the circle for the majority of her start. She held the Warriors scoreless over the first four innings. She ended up throwing five-and-a-third, giving up six hits and three runs.
The defenses dominated the beginning of this matchup. Neither team scored until the fifth.
The Regents had multiple opportunities with runners in scoring position but couldn't convert. They left seven runners on base in the first three innings.
The Warriors finally broke through with an inside-the-park home run by Madison Heller in the fifth to go up 1-0.
It all snowballed from there. WLC scored two runs in the sixth and then five in the seventh to put it out of reach. The Regents' offense never got off the ground, falling 8-0.
Game Two: Wisconsin Lutheran 11, Rockford 5
Liz Mois was 2-for-4 with a single and a solo home run. Hill continued her stellar day, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and two RBIs.
Kieran Madigan was 1-for-3 with a two-RBI double.Â
Claire Shanahan was given the ball in game two, throwing four complete innings. She struck out two and gave up eight hits and five runs.
Neelah Vandeberg and
Lorelei Monk each pitched in relief, giving up six runs over the final three innings.
This game had a lot more offense in the early innings then the previous one. After a scoreless first, the Warriors got it started with a run in the top of the second.
The Regents rebounded in the bottom half, loading the bases after singles from Shanahan and
Alexis Schuldt and a
Tayiah Scanlan hit-by-pitch. Madigan came through with two outs, driving in two runs with a ground rule double to center. Hill finished the job, driving in two runs of her own with a single through the right side.
Wisconsin Lutheran kept tacking on runs, bringing one home in the third and another in the fourth to make the score 4-3.
The Warriors took the lead in the fifth. An Addyson Wheeler two-run homer to left put them up 5-4.
Mois tied it up with a moon shot to left center leading off the bottom of the inning. We were all tied up at five with two innings to play.
WLC kept putting crooked numbers on the board. Kylie Gaston smacked a three-run homer as a pinch-hitter to put the Warriors in the driver's seat. They added another run in the inning and two more in the seventh to take an 11-5 lead.
Rockford couldn't answer in the bottom of the seventh, dropping the second game of the doubleheader.
