MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team earned a tough 3-2 win on the road Saturday afternoon against the Alverno College Inferno. Rockford fell behind 2-1 but came roaring back to win the final two sets and the match. The Regents dominated basically every single statistical category. Rockford held advantages in kills (65-52), assists (61-49), aces (16-14) and digs (82-77). The win moves Rockford to 13-5 against Alverno since both schools joined the NACC for the 2006 season.
- The Inferno got off to a hot start in the early going of the first set. Alverno scored eight of the first twelve points in the match to grab an 8-4 lead.
- The Inferno would then stretch their lead to as many as seven points late in the set at 18-11.
- Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to get any closer than three the rest of the way and dropped the first set 25-18.
- The second set was extremely close, with neither team leading by more than three points until very late.
- With Rockford holding a 20-17 lead late in the set, the Inferno scored three of the next four points to make it 21-20.
- Fortunately, the Regents scored the final four points, including a pair of Taylor Sagen service aces to close out the set, to secure the 25-20 win and knot the match at 1-1.
- The third set was again very close from start to finish. Rockford led by as many as four points early in the set, but the Inferno came storming back to take a four-point lead of their own late in the set.
- With the Inferno out in front 17-13, Rockford went on a 7-1 run to leap back in front 20-18. Three different Regents recorded kills over that span and Rockford also tallied a pair of service aces.
- The Regents were able to earn a set point at 24-23, but unfortunately, were unable to convert. The Inferno scored the final three points to win the set 26-24 and take a 2-1 lead.
- Rockford came out strong and took a quick 10-5 lead in a must-win fourth set. Melody Moreno led the Rockford attack with a trio of kills over that span.
- The Regents would extend their lead to as many as eight points at 19-11.
- Alverno was able to close the gap to just three at 22-19; however, Rockford scored three of the final four points to win the set and force a winner take all fifth and deciding set.
- Rockford came roaring out of the gates and seemingly seized control of the match with an 11-4 lead in the fifth. Four different Regents had a kill to start the set.
- However, the Inferno would not go down without a fight. Alverno promptly went on an 8-2 run to get back within a single point at 13-12.
- Fortunately, Alex Burton and Nicole Eggers responded with back to back kills, giving Rockford the 15-12 win in the fifth set and the 3-2 match win.
- Della Crain finished with a season-high 17 kills. Crain also added 7 digs, 3 aces and a block.
- Melody Moreno had a double-double with 15 kills, 12 digs and 3 aces.
- Nicole Eggers added a season-high 13 kills, 2 digs, a block, an ace and an assist.
- Jessica Witkowski also had a double-double with 26 assists, 11 digs and an ace.
- Taylor Sagen had a season-high 26 assists, 6 digs, 2 kills and 2 aces.
- Brynn Atwell tallied 20 digs, 2 aces, 1 kill and 1 assist.
