BELOIT, Wis. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team split its first two matches of the season on Friday. The Regents dropped their opener 3-0 to Martin Luther, but roared back for a 3-1 win in the nightcap against Finlandia University. Rockford played extremely well against the Lions, posting a .309 hitting percentage, including recording 14 kills compared to only 3 errors in the final set. Sophomore
Melody Moreno was simply outstanding throughout the match, tallying a career and match-high 16 kills and a .485 hitting percentage. Rockford was also extremely effective with 16 service aces, including 6 off the hand of
Della Crain.

- Rockford got off to a slow start in the opening set of the match falling behind 8-3.Â
- The Regents would eventually use a 6-0 run midway through the set and take their first lead of the day at 17-15.Â
- The set continued to go back and forth until it was tied at 24-24, but unfortunately, Finlandia scored the final two points to win the opening set 26-24.
- The second set got off to a much better start with Rockford jumping out to a 13-7 lead.Â
- With Rockford still leading 20-14, the Regents used a 5-1 run to close out the set and tie the match at 1-1.Â
- The Regents dominated the third set from start to finish. Rockford opened on a 9-1 and never looked back. Della Crain had 3 aces over that span and served 9 straight points.Â
- The Lions never got any closer than 7 points the rest of the set, as Rockford cruised to a 25-11 win.Â
- Rockford again got off to a good start in the fourth set, seizing an early 10-5 advantage.Â
- However, the Lions would score the next 4 points to pull back within one at 10-9.Â
- From that moment forward though, the match belonged to the Regents. Rockford promptly went on an 8-2 spurt to make it an 18-11 game. Melody Moreno had two more kills and Della Crain added yet another service ace.Â
- Finlandia was able to pull back within three at one point, but Rockford closed the match on a 6-2 run to seal the win.
