CHICAGO, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 on the road Tuesday night to the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks. The Regents were within striking distance the majority of the evening, but ultimately could not avoid large runs by the Scarlet Hawks in each of the three sets. Illinois Tech strung together a pair of 6-1 spurts in the first set, a 7-2 and 5-1 run in the second set and 7-2 and 8-0 scoring streaks in the third set. This would lead to a 25-20, 25-19, 25-15 win for the Scarlet Hawks.
- The first set bounced back and forth with IIT holding a 5-2 lead, before Rockford responded with a 9-3 run and grabbed an 11-8 lead of its own.
- Unfortunately, the Scarlet Hawks would score 10 of the next 13 points to take the largest lead thus far for either team at 18-14.
- The Regents were able to chip the deficit back down to just two at 21-19, following kills from Leila Cooks and Melody Moreno.
- However, IIT closed the set on a 4-1 run for the 25-20 victory.
- The second set got off to rocky start with Illinois Tech jumping out to a 7-2 advantage.
- With the Scarlet Hawks now holding a 16-11 advantage, IIT scored the next four points en route to taking the second set 25-19.
- The third set featured four lead changes and five ties over the first 20 points, with everything all knotted at 10-10.
- The two schools continued to go back and forth over the next few serves, with Illinois Tech now clinging to a 14-13 advantage.
- Unfortunately, IIT closed the match on an 11-2 run en route to winning the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
