RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team lost a tight match 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-23) on the road Thursday night at Dominican University. Despite not winning a set, the Regents battled and were in position to win late in each set. Rockford had double-digit kills in all three sets and finished with a .176 hitting percentage for the match. Unfortunately, Dominican had an equally impressive performance with no less than 13 kills in any set and ended the day with a .224 hitting percentage.
- The Stars shot out to a quick 17-7 lead in the first set.
- However, Rockford responded with an 11-4 run to pull all the way back to within three. Five different Regents had a kill and Rockford had three service aces during that span, including back-to-back aces by Jasmine Landberg.
- Unfortunately, Dominican scored four of the next five points to take the opening set 25-19.
- In the second set it was the Regents who jumped out to a 5-1 lead led by kills from Madisen Perry, Tamsy Leverton and Melody Moreno.
- Dominican would answer back with an 10-2 spurt and take its first lead of the set.
- With the Stars now holding a 21-16 advantage, the Regents scored five of the next six points to get all the way back to within one at 22-21. Madisen Perry led the charge with two of the Regents' four kills during that run.
- After the two schools traded points, Dominican scored the final two points to win the set 25-22 and take a 2-0 advantage.
- Following a back and forth start to begin the third set, the Stars eventually built their lead up to as many as six at 14-8.
- Fortunately, Rockford came roaring back with an 11-4 run to take its first lead since early in the set when it was 2-1. Madisen Perry had three kills and Amelia Rodriguez and Tamsy Leverton each had a pair of kills to put Rockford back in front.
- However, the Stars went on to outscore the Regents 7-4 to win the third set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
- Madisen Perry continued her torrid hitting streak with 9 kills on just 13 attempts for a .615 hitting percentage. Entering today's match, Perry was leading the NACC and was also tenth in NCAA Division III women's volleyball with a .407 hitting percentage. Perry rounded out her evening with 8 digs and 2 blocks.
- Tamsy Leverton finished with 8 kills on 11 attack attempts for a .727 hitting percentage. She also had a pair of blocks.
- Melody Moreno had 14 digs, 2 kills and a block.
- Jasmine Landberg added a match-high 15 digs, 5 assists and 2 aces.
