ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to the first-place Edgewood College Eagles in a Thursday night conference match. The Eagles held the advantage in every statistical category leading in kills (55-37), aces (9-5), blocks (10-7), assists (51-36) and digs (61-60). Despite this, the Regents battled with the Eagles, playing well in the 1st and 3rd sets, but struggling in the 2nd and 4th. After Edgewood took the first two sets, Rockford tried to tie the match up after taking the third set, but unfortunately, the Regents could not continue their momentum. This resulted in set scores of 21-25, 11-25, 25-22, 13-25 and allowed the Eagles to win the match.
- The Regents and Eagles got out to an 8-8 deadlock after Melody Moreno tied it up for Rockford with an ace.
- Rockford and Edgewood continued to battle, eventually leading to a slight 17-15 lead for the Regents after a block and kill by Jalyn Rhodes gave RU the advantage.
- Unfortunately, the Eagles were able to go on a 10-4 run to close out the first set, taking the set 25-21 and putting themselves up 1-0 in the match.
- The Eagles got out to a 13-5 lead to start the second set.
- Rockford got back-to-back kills from Madisen Perry to cut into the Edgewood lead, but the Eagles were able to eight straight points to take a commanding 21-7 lead.
- The Eagles were able to close out the second set 25-11 and put themselves up 2-0 in the match.
- Rockford got out to a slight 7-6 lead to start set three, with kills coming from Jalyn Rhodes, Alexx Burton and Madisen Perry to open up the third set.
- The Regents then went on a 7-2 run to take a 14-8 lead. During the run, Rockford got three kills from Madisen Perry and an ace by Leila Cooks.
- The Eagles were eventually able to claw back and tie up the set at 21-21 after a 13-7 run, but Rockford was able to score the next four out of five points to take the third set 25-22 and make it a 2-1 match.
- The Eagles came out scorching hot in the fourth set, rolling out to a 15-3 lead, after this Edgewood never looked back and eventually took the third set 25-13 also giving them the 3-1 win in the process.
