Cross Country Races to Seven New Personal Records at the NCAA Regional

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Rockford University cross country teams finished their 2024 seasons on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. The Regents had seven individuals set new personal bests in either the 8k or 6k races and another post a season best time in the 8k. Rebekah Starwalt led the way for Rockford by running the fourth fastest 6k time in program history when she crossed the finish line in 24:13.7. As a team, the ladies finished in 24th place and the men finished in 29th place.

Women's Results
  • Rockford's 24th place finish was the best finish for the ladies in well over a decade.
  • Rebekah Starwalt was once again the top performer for Rockford. Starwalt lowered her personal record in the 6k by 18.5 seconds and recorded the fourth fastest time in program history when she crossed the finish line in 24:13.7. Her 76th place finish was her best ever at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. 
  • Brianna Torres set a new personal record by almost 30 seconds on Saturday. Torres completed the 6k race in 25:25.5 to finish in 132nd place.
  • Donna Whiteside lowered her PR by nearly 90 seconds at the NCAA Midwest Regional. She crossed the finish line in 29:48.5 to place 190th. 
  • Kieran Madigan reduced her personal best in the 6k by over a minute. Madigan finished in 203rd place with a time of 33:23.8.
  • Jennifer Ruesch set a new personal record by just over 45 seconds on Saturday. Ruesch completed the 6k in 36:03.3 and finished in 208th place.
  • Mia Cosentino finished in 210th place with a time of 40:43.4.
Men's Results
  • Miles Lang was the first member of the RU men's cross country team to cross the finish line on Saturday. Lang completed the 8k race in 27:32.1 and finished in 138th place.
  • James Wallis finished in 166th place with a time of 28:30.5.
  • JJ Newlin set a new personal record in the 8k by almost 41 seconds at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. Newlin finished in 188th place with a time of 30:00.6.
  • Gavin Collier lowered his personal best time in the 8k by 1.8 seconds. He came in 203rd place with a time of 30:44.0.
  • Christopher Duron Jr. set a new 8k season best time by 0.1 seconds. He completed the race in 31:59.4 and finished in 211th place.
