ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Rockford University women's volleyball team fell to non-conference opponent, Lawrence on Friday evening at the Seaver Center 3-0. Set scores were 25-19, 25-13, 25-22.
Leading the Regents offensively was
Kennedy Bryant with a team-high seven kills.
Amelia Rodriguez and
Ashley Miller each had six.
Leila Cooks led RU in assists with eight while Rodriguez and
Keara Ross each tallied an ace.
Miller compiled 18 digs to lead the RU defense while
Jalyn Rhodes and
Ashley Mersch had two blocks respectively.
LU and RU were competitive in the beginning of the first set, until a 6-0 LU run gave the Vikings some cushion in the first set. Up 20-11, the Regents pulled to within three with an 8-3 run to cut the deficit to four at 23-19. However, an attack error from RU and a kill from LU allowed the Eagles to fend off a Regent comeback.
Rhodes got the scoring started off for the Regents in the second set with a kill from Cooks. The Vikings then went on a furious 21-6 run to take a 14-point lead, and ended up winning the set.
In a back-and-forth third set, RU took a 5-2 lead as a result of two attack errors from LU and three kills from Miller, Mersch, and Rodriguez for the Regents. The Vikings then went on a 7-1 run of their own to make it 9-6. The Regents had one more run in them to take a 19-17 lead in the set when they scored five unanswered points when they trailed 17-14. Rodriguez had two kills during that stretch. LU then ended the game with an 8-3 run to complete the sweep.
The Regents will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25, with a noon NACC match vs Milwaukee School of Engineering at the Seaver Center.
