MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The Rockford University women's volleyball team swept NACC conference opponent Alverno College on Saturday. Set scores were 25-9, 25-10, 25-16.
Jalyn Rhodes and
Tamsy Leverton made five kills each, while
Kennedy Bryant had four.
Leila Cooks totaled 11 assists, and
Amelia Rodriguez smashed five aces.
Defensively,
Leila Cooks and
Ashley Miller both recorded 10 digs, while
Keara Ross made eight. Rhodes tallied three blocks.
The Regents got off to a fast start to take a 9-0 lead. Alverno then went on a 6-2 spurt, but the Regents responded with a 7-0 scoring run to pull away to complete a dominant first set.
RU also won the second set dominantly. Alverno only had the lead once as a result of a service error on the first serve. A 12-3 run for the Regents up 11-6 resulted in the Regents cruising to a second-set victory.
The Regents completed the sweep in the third set, jumping out to a 23-9 lead. Alverno did not go away, though, responding with a 7-1 run to try and make a comeback in the set, to trim the deficit to eight, with RU still up 24-16.
Chloe Green then ended the run from Alverno with a kill from
Savannah Crooks to hold onto the sweep.
The Regents will return to action on Friday, Nov. 7, with a 7 p.m. CDT NACC match at Illinois Institute of Technology.
